Дом кази Садихана

The house of Kazi Sadihan, dating back to the beginning of the 20th century.

The house of Kazi Sadihan, dating back to the beginning of the 20th century,——          a typical example of Ferghana housing. The composition is two-yard. The house consists of communicating front and adjacent residential parts for women—with independent entrances. The core of the front part of the house is a living room with an entrance hall and an attached ivan. Two living rooms with an ivan and a number of utility rooms have been erected in the rectangular courtyard of Ichkari. The whole house is built on a two-meter basement, which made it possible to use the first floor for livestock and as a warehouse. A stone staircase with metal shaped railings leads to the ivan. In the iwans, flat beam ceilings with vassa are supported by slender wooden columns. The living rooms, heated by fireplaces, have built-in niches with curly frames for dishes and household accessories. The ganch-carved ornament, arranged in the piers between the windows and niches, is interesting. Above, white geometric patterns on an ultramarine background are made along the perimeter of the walls. The entirely painted ceiling is impressive, where a delicate floral pattern stands out against a red background. The characteristic composition of the winter rooms with L-shaped summer terraces and decorative decoration, made in the traditions of Ferghana architecture, place this house among the best works of folk craftsmen.

Among the residential buildings in Kokand, it is worth noting the living room in the house of the bai, whose name has not been preserved. This building is a monument of folk architecture of the 20th century.

The house occupies a rectangular plot, in the northern part of which there are two halls with an entrance hall and a U-shaped ivan on the southern side. The different-sized wings of the ivan and the halls of different sizes create an asymmetrical composition.

On a hot day, it is especially cool in the shade of a deep ivan, the flat ceiling of which is supported by slender square columns with figured beams.

The ivan and living room halls, decorated in the traditions of Fergana craftsmen, look ceremonial. In the piers there are carved ganch panels, including epigraphic and floral patterns. The top of the walls is decorated with a frieze carved in ganch with the addition of ultramarine on the aivan, and green in the hall. Red color predominates in the ceiling paintings. Particularly striking are the delicately drawn flowers on the beams. Between the frieze and the ceiling stretches a white ribbon of a stalactite cornice made of ganch.

The simplicity of the plan, based on local traditions, and the original decorative elements allow us to classify this house as an extraordinary creation of Fergana architects.
